Attraction Marketing And Dog Poop

Whoa…I’m not crazy, at least not yet. You did read the title of this post correctly. Believe it or not, attraction marketing and dog poop are not actually closely related…unless you are selling the stuff of course. Please read on and you’ll see the connection.

I’ve been watching the attraction marketing tactics for a while now and I’m going to get some stuff off my chest. I hate attraction marketing and the whole entire concept. I work with people every day that are so hung up on the attraction marketing concept that they forget what they are actually supposed to be doing…building a business!

People spent a huge amount of time and effort to make themselves look attractive to others as a marketing strategy. Does this work…well yes and no. It has worked in the past for a select few, but is this just a passing fad?

I really hate to hear someone say “Google me” as if that is some way to validate their success. Folks, ranking number one in Google for your name is not going to get you a lot of targeted traffic. And it’s not a major SEO feat either!

Let’s take a look at how dog poop and attraction marketing are related. You see, most people try to build a brand around themselves, unfortunately they concentrate on trying to rank for their name in Google as one of their tactics. They do this under the belief that people are actively searching for them.

Here’s the real scoop…pardon the pun…if you use Google’s keyword tool to check and see how many people are actively searching for your name, then it’s highly likely that you will find there aren’t many searches for your name…in fact you may be surprised to learn that there are more active searches for dog poop than for your name. Check it out for yourself, I’m not trying to say that you are anything like dog poop, just wanted to show the actual search volumes.

But wait a minute, I thought attraction marketing was supposed to create a demand for you…to let people know that you are the guru with all the secrets. But if that was the case, wouldn’t there be a fairly huge stream of searches for you and more specifically your name in the search engines? I think so!

Attraction marketing just does not create a huge demand for you in the searches. So, once you wrap your head around this concept, ask yourself, do I really want to spend a lot of time and money to rank for something that most likely no one is searching for… I personally would rather rank for dog poop and take a chance at converting the less targeted traffic as opposed to ranking for my name which no one knows to be looking for.

You may shocked to learn that even some of the huge attraction marketing gurus just simply do not have any one searching for them…odd concept, since that is the purpose of this type of marketing. You would think that this would generate a bigger search volume for that person’s name, but it just doesn’t happen.

Just some thoughts…maybe at the level of a mild rant…but in any case, I prefer to attract people by having them find me for the things I do. Once they find me for what I do then, they can get to know me for who I am.

Hope you found this interesting!
